Next week, hundreds of Black entrepreneurs will gather at the Minnesota Capitol to lobby legislators and express support.
Sheletta Brundidge, a well-known local media figure, is organizing Black Entrepreneurs Day at the Capitol for the second year running in an effort to link lawmakers with Black-owned companies.
Allies of Black business owners are welcome to attend the event on February 16. The day will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a rally in the rotunda of the Capitol, where Black entrepreneurs will discuss the steps that need to be taken to remove the historical hurdles that they face. Participants will meet with politicians at noon, and at 2:00 p.m., there will be lunch in the vault.
Brundidge is hosting the event via ShelettaMakesMeLaugh.com, her podcasting platform and own company.
Comcast, Northwestern Mutual, AARP Minnesota, Clear Channel Outdoors, and Clockwork are the event’s sponsors. Additionally, registered business owners will be given the chance to win a $5,000 award in a lottery. Online registration is available to anyone who want to take part in the event.
According to Brundidge, Black Entrepreneurs Day is a nonpartisan occasion. Attorney General Keith Ellison, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, and Governor Tim Walz are among the elected speakers. Senators from both parties and state representatives also intend to attend.
Approximately 400 businesses visited the Capitol last year as a result of Brundidge’s first-ever Black businesses Day. According to Brundidge, she anticipates a larger turnout this year.
