Bard as Gemini now – Google announces the commercial version (renamed)

Under a different moniker, Gemini is the same Bard product. For $19.99 a month, Gemini Advanced will be included in Google One.

Google’s conversational tool, Bard, driven by generative AI, has been discontinued. Only in name, that is. Today, Google revealed that Bard will now go by Gemini.

Google also revealed: 

• Gemini Advanced, a premium edition of Gemini.
• Duet AI will be replaced by Gemini, which will bring the Gemini model to Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, and other Google products. 
• Gemini is a new opt-in default assistant on Android and has been introduced to the iOS Google App.

Why it matters to us. We are only at the beginning of Google’s transformation of its key products, including Search, as we enter the new Google Gemini period. Since its inception in December, Gemini has been employed in SGE and Google Ads, and this year, it will expand its use in search. Fasten your seatbelt.

There are actually just two changes to be aware of if you have been using Bard: 

• From now, Bard is a Gemini now. 
• You will visit gemini.google.com to use the AI tool instead of bard.google.com.

Why was the name changed? From Bard to Gemini

In an effort to make things easier for users, Google made it obvious that they are interacting with the Gemini model, not the Bard one. Gemini is the center of an ecosystem that Google is creating.

• Google pointed out that Gemini is likely to still refer to himself as Bard if you ask him what his name is now. Google is attempting to correct the model’s name change.

Gemini on a mobile phone. On Android, Gemini will also receive a stand-alone app. After downloading the app, you have the option to either use your existing assistant experience or set Gemini as your default assistant for a Gemini-led experience. (I strongly believe that in the near future, Gemini will be your only choice.)

• The iOS Google app will also make Gemini available.

Gemini Advanced. Google also unveiled Gemini Advanced, the premium edition of the program. For $19.99 a month, it is included in the Google One subscription service’s AI Premium plan, which also offers additional storage and a few other benefits.

You may write lengthier prompts and Gemini will get the context, according to Google, since Advanced is better at understanding subtle directions. Google positioned Bard as a helpful end-to-end content production tool that can handle anything from generate ideas to generate content at a press briefing.

• Google described Gemini Ultra 1.0 as their “biggest and most competent model for exceedingly complicated tasks,” and this model powers Advanced.
• It is accessible in more than 150 countries, but initially exclusively in English. Over time, Google plans to add more languages.
• More special features for coding, data analysis, and multimodal interaction are on the way.
• New users may sign up for a complimentary two-month trial with Google.
• With the Google One premium subscription, Gemini will soon be accessible via Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet, among other applications. Duet AI is being replaced by Gemini.
