An apparent 42-year-old father and his 14-year-old son drowned on Lake Anna, and the Louisa Sheriff’s Office is looking into the incident.
At at 1:10 PM on Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office and additional emergency personnel arrived to Lake Anna near Carrs Bridge Road in response to a complaint of a child drowning. Deputies were informed while they were travelling that the child’s father had made an effort to find and save his son. Witnesses reportedly saw the father struggling right before they lost sight of him as well. A number of people into the water to try and find them, but to no avail.
The father and son were declared dead at the site, and their corpses were located and recovered with assistance from the Spotsylvania County Fire & EMS Dive Team, Mineral Vol Fire, Lake Anna Vol Rescue, Louisa Sheriff’s Office Marine Units, and the Department of Wildlife Resources.
The victims were from out of state, according to the Sheriff’s Office, and their names are being kept private until their next of kin is notified. There is no suspicion of foul play, according to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office.
