The event’s 30th anniversary edition will take place at a number of locations across the city until late March.

The transdisciplinary Sonic Acts Biennial, celebrating its 30th anniversary, has kicked off in Amsterdam. This year’s festival is focused on cultural practices that address global geopolitics and the climate crises.

This year’s Sonic Acts Biennial, themed The Spell Of The Sensuous after the 1996 book by environmentalist and philosopher David Abram, will feature a variety of events including club nights, concerts, exhibitions, installations, film screenings, and more.

The schedule, which spans 15 sites and over 50 events, is divided across a number of Amsterdam venues, such as music halls like Muziekgebouw and BIMHUIS and club spaces like Garage Noord and Het HEM.

This Friday, February 9 at OT301 will feature performances by aya, M.E.S.H., and other artists. However, the majority of the schedule revolves around the main festival weekend, which takes place from February 23 to 25, when various venues will host various events.

This weekend, among others, Russell Haswell, Aho Ssan, Kassel Jaeger, and Sarah Davachi will play at Muziekgebouw. On February 23, meantime, the 12-hour event TRANCE will take place at the Paradiso venue. It will feature sets by ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U, Dis Fig, and other artists, and will be centered around the work of Chinese contemporary artist Tianzhuo Chen, which has included performance art, videos, and installations.

On February 24, there will be a club night at Garage Noord with performances by ZULI, BEARCAT, and KABLAM, among others. On February 23–25, Stedelijk Amsterdam will conduct a symposium with a variety of speakers.
